Nine possible locations are being considered for a permanent Gypsy and Traveller site in the borough.
Chorley Council was told by a Government-appointed planning inspector that it must find potential sites after a study showed there was a need for five permanent pitches.
They could be used by the family currently based on Hut Lane, Heath Charnock.
Nine sites have now been named as possible locations.
