Outcome of recent complaint against Thames Valley Police

From Thames Valley police

Following a recent complaint of Race Discrimination by one of its officers, PC Jim Davies, who is an English Romany Gypsy, Thames Valley Police are pleased to report that a settlement has been reached .

In light of the issues and observations raised by PC Davies, a review of how Thames Valley Police engages with Gypsy Roma Traveller (GRT) communities will be commenced.

This review will be conducted independently and will involve a review of existing policies and procedures to ensure Thames Valley Police serves all of its communities and ensures that any racial stereotyping or outdated practices and procedures are amended or removed.

PC Davies will be instrumental in assisting in this process, as will the newly formed GRT Police Association.

Thames Valley Police would like to make clear that this is a non-financial settlement, and that at no time during the course of settlement negotiations has PC Davies sought personal financial compensation.

Thames Valley Police is pleased that these matters have been brought to its attention.

It will not tolerate any form of discrimination towards any minority group and strives to operate fully in compliance with good practice in relation to diversity and equality, both within the force and externally insofar as it best serves its communities, including the GRT community.

Thames Valley Police will await the outcome of the findings and any recommendations of the independent review.
