Travellers who made camp in Stonehouse have been moved on.
Stroud District Council officials and police visited the car park behind Stonehouse Town Council offices this morning, following complaints from residents.
Sergeant Dan Wood said common sense had prevailed.
"We are very happy with the outcome of this incident and would like to thank the local community for their patience,” he said.
“We would also like to commend the common sense showed by those occupying the site and their willingness to engage with officers.
“No enforcement powers were used and the vehicles and their occupants moved on from the site at police request in conjunction with Stroud District Council.
“Today's action again displays to the people of Stonehouse that the neighbourhood policing team will deal proactively and quickly to issues that arise."
A council spokesman said: “We visited the site, along with the police, who were able to issue a formal notice for the Travellers to move on immediately.
“The Travellers complied promptly and have left the site. We are grateful for the efforts of Gloucestershire police, whose swift action meant that disruption for local people was minimised.”
