Travellers who set up home on the car park of the Walthamstow Stadium have been served eviction papers.
Landowners, Hackney Community Transport, which plans to build a bus depot on the site, confirmed today that the Travellers have been formally given notice and ordered to appear in court on Thursday.
A second group of Travellers arrived and settled on a nearby patch of land, located at the rear of an industrial estate on the other side of the A406 by Billet Road, at the weekend and negotiations to move them on are believed to have begun.
Neighbours in the area gave a mixed reaction to the arrival of the new residents and Waltham Forest Council said it would send staff to the scene to assess any health and welfare concerns shortly after their arrival.
