Travellers return to Dairy House Lane - Cheshire

From wilmslow.co.uk

A group of Travellers have now set up camp on Council owned land near Dairy House Lane, which is just within the Cheshire East border.

This site, to the rear of Total Fitness in Handforth, was occupied by Travellers for a couple of weeks in July.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: "A group of Travellers, consisting of 19 caravans located on Earl's Road, Handforth, left the site on Saturday, following a visit by Council enforcement officer.

"Unfortunately the Council is now aware that a different group of Travellers, consisting of 10 caravans, has moved on to land off Dairy House Lane.

"Council officers have visited the site and we are now moving forward with the legal process to secure possession of the site.

It is frustrating, but it is not realistically possible to secure all Council sites to prevent Travellers from occupying them unlawfully.

"It is frustrating, but it is not realistically possible to secure all Council sites to prevent Travellers from occupying them unlawfully.

"Over the summer, our streetscape officers have been out and replaced locks and further secured Council sites where we can. We are also looking at other actions to help secure our sites from unlawful encampments in the future.

"The Council is currently making every effort to identify a suitable location for a transit site in Cheshire East – to alleviate the problem going forward."
