Imperial Way Travellers 'gone by tomorrow' - London

From the Croydon Advertiser

CARAVANS illegally parked in Imperial Way should be moved on by tomorrow at the latest, the council has said.

The authority is in court this morning to seek a removal order against the roughly 30 caravans parked there since the weekend.

A council spokesman said the bailiffs would be brought in tomorrow (Thursday) if the Travellers failed to move immediately.

Business owners have complained about the behaviour of Travellers at the encampment, including allegations of an assault and a dog bite.

Sophie Anderson, a manager at Costco, said: "We have got 260 employees here and we leave late at night and one of our members of staff should not have been assualted."

The council spokesman added longer term plans were being explored to prevent Travellers parking illegally in the area.

He said: "Subject to consultation and agreement with local businesses we’re exploring height restriction barriers, bollards and other restrictions."
