From Plymouth City College
Following Holocaust Memorial Day, City College Plymouth’s Student Liaison team has organised for a South West, Romany Gypsy speaker to deliver a talk to College students on ‘Porrajmos: The Untold Story of the Gypsy Holocaust’ on Wednesday 5 February.
The talk, which includes a 16 minute film, follows a South West Romany Gypsy who travels to Auschwitz to find out what happened to the Gypsy people who lived there. The production of the film was supported by the Plymouth and Devon Racial Equality Council.
Lizzie Isaacs will be talking about the content and history of the Porrajmos DVD.
Bernadette Bevan, Programme Manager for Access to HE Diploma Health and Social Care, said: “Many of the students are currently studying equal opportunity, diversity and anti-oppressive practice.
“Future career aspirations for these students would involve working with vulnerable children and adults in a range of health and social care settings, including nursing and social work, so talks like these are invaluable.”
