Land identified for temporary Travellers' site as permanent South Bank pitch gets £860k refurb - Yorkshire

From the Gazette

Travellers in South Bank could be temporarily relocated to a new site if a new plan goes ahead.

A planning application has been submitted to Redcar and Cleveland Council to move residents currently occupying a permanent pitch at the Haven Travellers site in King George's Terrace to land on John Boyle Road at South Tees Freight Park.

The council has successfully applied for cash support to the Homes and Communities Agency for work to improve the Haven site.

The Gazette has reported how around £860,000 was planned to be spent on improvements which include demolition of eight existing amenity blocks; provision of nine new amenity blocks with improved facilities; the number of pitches being increased from 13 to 18.

Facilities to be provided on the temporary site would include serviced portable toilets, water bowsers and individual electric generators.

If the plan goes ahead a supporting statement states: “Each family that transferred to the temporary site from The Haven would be issued with a licence agreement that included a ‘code of conduct’ of acceptable behaviour that the families would need to satisfy.”

The land would be occupied for no more than one year, before the residents returned to the refurbished Haven Travellers Site.
