PLANS to site three mobile homes in the grounds of a house near Stone have been thrown out by the Secretary of State.
The homes were to be stationed in the land behind Wood View at Hilderstone Road, Meir Heath, for Gypsy family members of applicant Gordon Rogerson, who has owned the Meir Heath site for the past six years but currently lives at the Ashlea caravan site at Hopton.
The plans were to enable his extended family to live as a group and support one another in accommodation that met their needs.
The appplication sought permission to station three mobile homes, a children's play room and play area, a part access road and area of hardstanding for parking and turning of vehicles.
But Stafford Borough Council refused permission in September 2012 and the Planning Inspectorate dismissed an against the council's decision, following a hearing in September 2013.
The appeal was recovered for determination by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, MP Eric Pickles. But last week he backed the inspector's decision to dismiss the appeal, on the grounds the proposal was inappropriate development in the Green Belt.
He considered that the "very special circumstances necessary for the granting of planning permission do not exist".
He also "gave significant weight" to the planning permission granted for 36 permanent Gypsy pitches on land at St Alban's Road, Stafford, last month.
Stone MP Bill Cash welcomed the decision.
"It is a tremendous result," he said.
