From the Chichester Observer
TODAY (February 6) villagers will have the first chance to view plans for a new transit Travellers’ site in Westhampnett.
The scheme, which was unveiled on November 25, would see a nine-pitch site created as part of the redevelopment of Chichester District Council’s Westhampnett depot.
The site has received approval from full council at the district, which is now in the process of applying to its own planning department for permission to build.
The site would be jointly funded by all the district and borough councils in the county, as well as the
county council.
Under the criminal justice act, police would have powers to move illegal encampments on to the site, as it would be a criminal rather than a civil offence.
A public exhibition of the plans takes place today from 4pm-8pm at the March School, in Claypit Lane, Westhampnett.
The council has received approval of a bid to the homes and communities agency for a grant to help fund the site.
