Travellers leave before forced eviction - Berkshire

From the Royal Borough Observer

SEVEN caravans parked outside New Windsor Community Centre have left after being threatened with forced eviction.

The vehicles, which had foreign number plates, arrived on Sunday by entering the field from Sawyers Close - knocking down two bollards.

Inspector John McKee, of Thames Valley Police, served the Travellers a 24-hour eviction notice yesterday (Tuesday) and officers were braced to force them off them the land at midday today.

Brenda Smelling, manager of the New Windsor Community Centre, said: "We are delighted they have gone and about time too.

"They shouldn't have been there anyway and they leave a lot of mess. We don't want them hanging around."

The field is used by young football teams and is being prepared for the start of the new season.

A Dedworth resident, who did not want to be named, said: "It is extremely frustrating. They leave a lot of mess.

"The biggest problem is the fact the football season is starting soon. There are eleven youngster's teams who use the park and pay a lot of money to use it."
