Legal proceedings begin against Travellers - Lincolnshire

From Cleethorpes People

LEGAL proceedings have begun against a group of Travellers who are camped illegally at King George V playing fields, Grimsby.

North East Lincolnshire Council officials visited the Travellers, who arrived on Friday and intend to stay for a week, and offered health advice and promised to install bins near to the camp.

A spokeswoman for the council said: "The council were made aware on Friday last week that Travellers with approximately seven caravans had set up site on King George V playing fields in Grimsby.

"Welfare checks have been carried out. As this is council-owned land, we have begun legal proceedings so that the land can be reclaimed."

One of the Travellers, Sarah Wall, said: "We have come from all over. We all went down to Cleethorpes Prom at the weekend. It is a lovely place, the kids loved it."

She said council officers had offered refuse bins to the travelling families.

She added: "They have been very co-operative and we have been co-operative with them."
