GYPSY SINGERS SCORE COUNTRY MUSIC HIT IN NASHVILLE

From the Daily Star

Two sexy singers from Travellers’ sites in Britain have hit the big time in the country music mecca – Nashville, Tennessee.

Talia Smith, 30, and Kelly Lee, 27, have recorded their first album and have been shortlisted for a top UK country music award.

The girls have only been together for nine months, singing under the name Travellin Rose.

Brunette mum-of-three Talia, a former aeroplane cleaner at Heathrow, and blonde mum-of-two Kelly have made a massive impact on the country scene.

Talia was 16 when she met her Gypsy husband Billy, 32, the father of her children Leanne, 12, William, eight and Dennis, two.

Talia, who lives on a trailer site at Cranford, near Heathrow, said: “I was never a singer until after the third baby but I’d been encouraged to sing around the campfre and on karaoke nights. I’ve a lot to thank the Gypsy community for as I pretty much lost all my friends when I moved in with Billy when I was just 16 but they made me welcome and have encouraged me to sing.

“I’ve never watched any of these TV shows about Gypsies on principle. They are for entertainment, it’s not our real life.

“As Travellin Rose, me and Kelly represent ourselves – we’re not ambassadors for Romany life.

“But we’re trying to be good role models in our community and for our kids.

“I really love Nashville. The people are so welcoming, they embrace you and Gypsies like that.”

Their first single Made Up My Mind topped the British and Irish country charts for five weeks.

Kelly, mum to son Riley, three, and daughter Tennessee, two, said: “I’ve been singing since I was a little girl. It’s in our blood. We sing around the campfire.

“My family have been on the same trailer site in Hatfield, Herts, since my dad was five.

“I started to do something with my singing when I was 15 and I started with karaoke nights in the pub.

“But it was after I had my kids and met Talia that my career took off. We’ve done such a lot in just a few months together.

“We hit it off instantly and everything has followed on from there.

“We love writing our own stuff and nothing sums us up better than the track I Am What I Am, which will be on our debut album OMG.

“We’re not into these reality TV shows. We don’t want to be famous for being Gypsies – we want to be famous for our music.”
