TRAVELLERS descended on a site in Wakefield after an official convention was cancelled at a public park.
Normanton Neighbourhood Policing Team said on Friday evening that “a large number of travellers” had arrived at Heath Common.
A spokesman said: “This is due to a official event called The Travellers Misson, which was cancelled at the last minute at Pugneys, Wakefield.
“Wakefield Council and the Police have been liaising with them and monitoring the situation.”
The police said the travellers were planning to vacate the area by Monday.
