A public meeting is being held to discuss the 2012 Appleby Horse Fair in Cumbria.

The fair is an annual gathering of Gypsies and travellers in the town of Appleby, and takes place on the first week in June.

Organisers say the event attracts about 10,000 participants and over 30,000 visitors in the town which has a population of about 2,500.

The meeting will take place on Monday in Appleby Public Hall from 19:00 BST.

The meeting will be chaired by Appleby County Councillor Martin Stephenson, who said: "This is an opportunity for Appleby residents to hear about the operational planning for the fair directly from the coordinating group."

Following the fair there will be a meeting on Monday, 2 July to discuss how it went and to collect suggestions for the planning process for 2013.
