Hundreds turn out to Gypsy wedding - Northamptonshire

From the Evening Telegraph

GREY skies did not detract hundreds of onlookers from huge wedding dresses, lots of sparkle, and plenty of fake tan as Corby staged its own big fat Gypsy wedding.

National media and film crews from the hit television show gathered alongside hundreds of onlookers in Occupation Road to watch the spectacle at Our Lady of Walsingham Church on Saturday.

A local Traveller couple tied the knot at the church.

Samantha Cruickshanks, 32, of Oakley Vale, Corby, said: “I love the television show so had to come down to take a look.

“The town has been buzzing about it for the past few days, so I’m not surprised to see so many people down here.

“Hopefully it will be featured on the TV show, and its brilliant.

“It takes you to a different world.

“I thought the dresses were nice, it was lower key than some Gypsy weddings you see on television, there wasn’t too much bling.”

Amanda Duffy, 41, of Shire Road, Corby, said: “I can’t believe there’s so many people down here.

“I didn’t expect it.

“I thought the dresses were lovely.

“It’s going to put Corby on the map.”

True to form, the bride arrived in a white stretch limo as the crowds clamoured to catch a glimpse.

The popular Channel Four series has been a bit hit with television viewers, with its fake tans, huge dresses, and grandiose cakes.

The couple were married at 2pm,.

A reception is then thought to have been held at the Open Hearth, in Studfall Avenue, Corby.

The wedding could be featured on a future episode of the show.

Terry O’Brien, 67, of Woodfield Grove, said: “All the neighbours have been talking about it.

It’s absolutely manic.”
