TRAVELLERS who set up a large and unexpected camp on Heath Common are expected to be moved on today.
The Travellers set up the camp after an official event at Pugneys Country Park was cancelled at the last minute on Friday night.
Officers from the Normanton Neighbourhood Police Team (NPT), the police helicopter and teams from Wakefield Council have been monitoring the camp throughout the weekend,
A spokesman for the NPT said: “Over the weekend we received numerous reports, primarily regarding the anti-social use of motor vehicles.
“As a result there have been a number of tickets given out for a variety of offences including not wearing seatbelts and driving otherwise in accordance with a license.”
The police said the Travellers were planning to leave today.
