Four police cars and two cop vans raced to the scene when the violent bust-up between 14 to 15 men broke out in Ayr.
One witness said: “It was like something out of the Wild West. They were really setting about each other. But as soon as they heard the police coming it was all over.”
It’s believed trouble had already flared at the bash at the town’s Horizon hotel in the early hours of Friday morning — before the 10am punch-up outside.
A source revealed: “This was a wedding involving members of the travelling community, many of whom were staying in the hotel.
“Everything seemed to be going well, but we all know that weddings can be highly-charged affairs.
“The first sign of trouble we had was at 4am when we received a report of a disturbance in the reception area of the hotel.
“A couple of people had slight injuries but weren’t making any complaint and said that whatever had happened had just been an accident.
“Then, just after 10am, we began getting calls about this bigger battle in the car park.
“But by the time we arrived, they seemed to have sorted things out among themselves and it was all over.”
The 25-room hotel is a popular wedding venue.
A spokesperson for the Horizon said: “This is the first time we have had an incident like this in 33 years. I hope we never have another one.”
A police spokeswoman confirmed: “We received reports that 14 to 15 males were fighting.”
