From the Birmingham Mail
Campaigners have been camped at their Eaves Green Lane site for 1,069 days and Mr McGrath said they will remain there until the Traveller site is restored.
“We will stay here until the last caravan is removed and will not tolerate another Dale Farm situation after having raised and spent £90,000 from the community on our protest,’’ he added.
“When the last caravan goes, we are looking to get the land reinstated.
‘‘Legally the Travellers are obliged to sort the land or they’ll be in contempt of court.’’
RAID has had support from Nikki Sinclaire MEP over the last 1,000-plus days and said it would be wrong for them to be evicted before the Travellers.
She said: “Protesting is a fundamental right in a democracy. I know from speaking to many of the protestors that they are looking forward to the day their protest becomes unnecessary.
“It is wholly right and sensitive that the protest camp should be allowed to remain until the Travellers have respected their legal obligations.
‘‘It would be extremely remiss to take any action whatsoever against the protesters for exercising their democratic rights. Many of the protestors are of a generation that sacrificed so much for the right to protest.”
