Travellers arrive at Coronation Recreation Ground in Hersham - Surrey

From the Elmbridge Guardian

A group of Travellers, thought to be three families, have arrived in Hersham.

Three caravans arrived at Coronation Recreation Ground, in Molesey Road, between Saturday evening and Sunday morning and it is believed they came from Xcel Leisure Centre, in Walton.

Hersham councillors Mary and John Sheldon spoke to the Travellers informally on Sunday afternoon, and said they asked if they would be able to get them a house and large wheelie bin for their rubbish.

Coun Mary Sheldon said she believed a council officer was due to visit the site this afternoon to speak to the Travellers officially.

The caravans are in the car park at the recreation ground and back on to the children’s play area.

The car park, which has recently been resurfaced, is usually locked overnight, however has been left unlocked due to the presence of the Travellers.
