From the Ellesmere Port Pioneer
DETAILED plans have been put in for the controversial Gypsy and Traveller site proposed for Ellesmere Port.
Cheshire West and Chester Council is pressing ahead with its 12 pitch site on part of the Rossfield Road council depot which dates back to the 1970s.
The council’s architects, Merseyside based Ainsley Gommon, say the ‘high quality’ development will allow the depot, on the industrial estate, to continue.
The application includes 12 pitches, each of which can accommodate a static caravan, a tourer and two vehicles.
Eight utility buildings are proposed with a warden’s office close to the entrance.
The architects argue:“Having designated sites provides certainty for everyone not only for the benefit of the Gypsy and Traveller community.”
With access from Rossfield Road they believe the pitches are ‘well located’ for Gypsies and Travellers close to a wide range of services and facilities.
They say the development takes account of guidance including convenience and safety for residents on the site, privacy for them and those living nearby and scope for social integration with the local community.
The warden’s office will also allow space for a community room enabling health visits, educational use and integration of Gypsies and Travellers with the community.
A close boarded fence is proposed to reduce noise from the road and the railway.
Consultations with neighbours run until Thursday May 2.
The application is due to be decided by Tuesday July 2.
The architects explain funding for the site has been obtained by Plus Dane.
This is required to be spent by March 2015.
