From the Plymouth Herald
A GROUP of Travellers has set up home on Plymouth Industrial Business Park.
Caravans, cars and vans – along with supporting equipment like gas canisters – arrived on the site - at the rear of HSBC - this week.
Council officials have already visited the illegal camp to carry out welfare checks on the families living there.
But strict guidelines mean it could take up to four weeks to move the Travellers on.
The council deals with around 25 illegal encampments every year, partly because there are no organised transit sites in Plymouth.
In December, Plymouth City Council was awarded £600,000 to build 10 pitches a permanent residential site at Military Road.
The cash from the Homes and Communities Agency will go some way towards meeting the city's need for 50 Gypsy and Traveller pitches.
Providing permanent sites will also help to control unauthorised developments.
A Council spokeswoman said: "We have undertaken the required welfare checks and are following our normal procedures for dealing with unauthorised encampments which are available on our website."
