YOUNGSTERS in Leigh gathered for a traditional Romany party as part of a Gypsy celebration in the town.
More than 20 children took part in International Roma Day, with singing, dancing and even street dance, rap and beat-boxing taking place during a 90-minute spectacular at Leigh Miners Welfare Club.
The group – all members of the Wigan Council-backed Kámoši project for eastern European teenagers – put on a show to remember.
Sixteen-year-old Patricia Gadzorova entertained the crowd with both traditional and modern Romany dancing.
She said: “We wanted to say this is our culture, this is our way of life and invite other people to celebrate it with us.”
Beatboxer MC Rene Horvath, aged 14, said: “Our identity is Roma but our home town is Leigh, which is what made this celebration so important.”
International Roma Day is an annual event that celebrates the history and culture of Roma people across Europe and all over the world.
