Travellers camp at old primary school - Suffolk

From the Beccles and Bungay Journal

Travellers have taken up residence on the former Worlingham Primary School site near Beccles.

Police were called to Garden Lane on Sunday after reports that five caravans, a horse box and one car were parked on the playground at the back of the now redundant school.

A spokesman from Suffolk Police said: “We were made aware they were on the old Worlingham Primary School site at 9.20am on Sunday.

“We’ve spoken to both the parish council and county council and understand a Traveller liaison officer has been to the site.

“We are continuing to monitor the situation.”

A spokesman for Suffolk County Council said: “We’re aware of an unauthorised encampment at the old school site in Worlingham, and have engaged with the occupants. The council is currently working with partners to look at how best to manage the unauthorised encampment.”
