46 houses to be built for Travellers - Ireland

Cavan County Council is providing 46 housing units for Travellers over the next four years.


The details were revealed as part of the local authority’s accommodation plan for 2014 – 2018.

There are currently 161 Traveller families living in county Cavan – according to the most recent figures gathered in November 2012.

As part of the Council’s Housing Traveller Accommodation Act, the authority is required to prepare a new programme for the next four years.

A total of 46 accommodation units in the following categories - local, group, voluntary, private and the RAS or rental accommodation scheme – will be made available from now until 2018.

Of these – seven will become available in Cavan this year, while one unit will be free in Bailieborough and Cootehill. The programme will be adopted on April 30th this year.
