ELDC appealing for new residential land and Traveller sites - Lincolnshire

From the Louth Leader

East Lindsey District Council is appealing for land to be identified within the district which could be used for residential development. The council also needs to identify sites within the district which can be used by Gypsies, Travellers or Showpeople.

Following a pre-submission review of its draft Core Strategy by the Planning Inspectorate, the council was advised by government that it would need to make changes. These include a housing target for the district in line with future demographic growth and the inclusion of land that could accommodate such development had to be identified in the plan.

The council says it was was also advised of the need to locate suitable Traveller sites in line with the need identified in the council’s 2012 Assessment.

The council has now delayed submitting its draft plan to the Secretary of State until after this extra work is carried out.

The council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Regeneration, Cllr Craig Leyland, said: “The pre-submission review has given us two key areas in which we have to undertake more work to enable the Council to produce an acceptable Strategy.

“Clearly there is a need for both residential development as well as Gypsy and Traveller sites within the district; this need has already been identified.

“What we now need to do is identify suitable sites within East Lindsey. I would urge people to come forward to identify suitable land. All land identified to us will be assessed for suitability.”

To accommodate the anticipated housing growth for the next 15 to 20 years, the council needs to identify possible sites for development in areas including Louth, Alford, Coningsby, Tattershall, Horncastle, Spilsby, Binbrook, Burgh le Marsh, Grainthorpe, Grimoldby, Manby, Friskney, Hogsthorpe, Holton le Clay, Huttoft, Legbourne, Mareham le Fen, Marshchapel, North Somercotes, North Thoresby, Sibsey, Stickney, Tetford, Tetney, Wainfleet All Saints, Willoughby, Woodhall Spa and Wragby.

If you would like to put forward a site for either development use or as a Traveller site you can download a site submission form at www.e-lindsey.gov.uk/

Anyone who has previously submitted a form does not need to submit another.
