Gipsy site plans in Penkridge are quashed by South Staffordshire Council

Controversial plans for a permanent Gypsy site on green belt land in Staffordshire have been thrown out by planning bosses, amid protests by villagers.

South Staffordshire Council’s regulatory committee had been advised to approve plans for six Gypsy caravans to stay permanently on land off the A449 Stafford Road in Penkridge.

But the plans were thrown out during a meeting last night, with one councillor stating: “Not one of the 10,000 people who live in Penkridge want that site there.”

Penkridge Parish councillor Calvert Stonehouse said: “This is something we have fought against as far back as 1990. This is the right decision for Penkridge. The land is a gateway into the village.”
