Bollards planned to keep Travellers off Coventry's Wyken green

From the Coventry Telegraph

RESIDENTS of a Coventry street are to have bollards installed to keep out Travellers after a wait of 10 years.

Residents in Keswick Walk, Wyken, say they asked Coventry City Council to install bollards around the green in the cul-de-sac in 2002 after Travellers moved there.

But this was not acted upon or treated as an emergency until Travellers moved into the site again at the weekend.

There was a stand off between police, residents and Travellers on Saturday morning after more than 12 caravans parked up on grass at the end of Keswick Walk.

After several hours some of the Travellers left but others remained, vowing they would not move until the council forced them out.

They have now left and moved onto a rented site on a Rugby farm.

Ray Woods, chairman of the Belgrave Road Residents and Neighbourhood Watch Association, said: “I was a bit disgusted on Saturday with the attitude of some of the Travellers and residents.

“But it could have been prevented if the council had listened to us last time this happened 10 years ago, but it just got buried under the carpet.
