From the Crawley and Horley Observer
Building work cannot go ahead because Travellers are occupying a Crawley school carpark, the headteacher has said.
The group arrived at Discovery New School and Broadfield Park carpark on Monday (July 9).
Headteacher Andrew Snowdon said: “They’ve taken over the carpark so we’ve had to put off building work for the time being.
“We only opened in the last year and so are due to complete building over the summer.
“When you have to change plans like this it’s never simple – there’s lots of different people to contact and all sorts of other things.
“If someone came and parked in your parking space at home there’s clearly things you would need to do. But we have to change and that all costs money to a charity like us.”
Crawley Borough Council confirmed it was monitoring the situation.
Part of the occupied land is private and part is council owned.
Police also attended the scene off Brighton Road but said they were leaving the situation in the hands of the council for now.
