Council tells Travellers they must move from Plymouth site - Devon

From the Plymouth Herald

A GROUP of Travellers set up an illegal camp in Derriford yesterday.

The small group of caravans was parked on council land behind the Future Inn, just off the Tavistock Road.

A Plymouth City Council spokeswoman said: "We have been made aware of the unauthorised encampment and have undertaken the required welfare checks.

"We are following our normal procedures for dealing with unauthorised encampments."

Plymouth does not have any authorised transit sites, so cannot fast-track evictions.

The council posted notices on the site and on the caravans informing the occupants they are on city land without consent, and giving them 48 hours to quit.

If they do not move on, the council will start legal action.
