Travellers set up camp near Dundee Airport

From the Courier

Concern has been expressed at the appearance of another Travellers' encampment in the west of Dundee.

The gathering of caravans set up at the Scottish Water site at the Riverside Business Park, immediately west of Dundee Airport, on Wednesday.

It comes just days after encampments around the west of the city were moved on after being served legal notice by council officials and the police.

Legal steps have been already been taken by the site's owners to move on the latest settlers.

The site was previously occupied in August 2010 and West End councillor Fraser Macpherson said there are concerns that another encampment will lead to a problem with rubbish being dumped at the site.

During the last encampment on the former Scottish Water site a considerable mess was left and concerns were raised about it blowing over the airport runway.
Travellers have set up camp here is a concern given the mess that was left last time there was an occupation at this site,'' he said.

''Rubbish blowing across the airport runway was a real worry the last time. It appears that, although the site was secured with a barrier after the last occupation, this has been forced open.''
