From the Crawley and Horley Observer
TRAVELLERS occupying a school carpark have departed after police ordered them to leave, Crawley Borough Council has said.
Police used Section 61 powers to disperse the group which was at the Discovery New School carpark and Broadfield Park, off Brighton Road, since Monday (July 9).
According to the council they left last night (Wednesday July 11).
The school had raised concerns that the arrival of the travellers was stopping summer improvement works at the new free school.
Headteacher Andrew Snowdon said: “They’ve taken over the carpark so we’ve had to put off building work for the time being.
“We only opened in the last year and so are due to complete building over the summer.
“When you have to change plans like this it’s never simple – there’s lots of different people to contact and all sorts of other things.
“If someone came and parked in your parking space at home there’s clearly things you would need to do. But we have to change and that all costs money to a charity like us.”
