THE Ministry of Defence (MoD) is being urged to release some of its land at Warcop as a temporary camp site during Appleby New Fair.
Penrith and the Border MP Rory Stewart is seeking to enlist the support of Philip Dunne, the minister for defence equipment, for the proposal.
After meetings with local residents, councillors, ministers and officials from the MoD, Mr. Stewart is pressing the ministry to temporarily release land as a camping place for the Gypsies and Travellers who pass through the Eden Valley in the lead up to the annual horse fair.
