Illegal works at Travellers' site identified by Royal Borough officers - Berkshire

From the Royal Borough Observer

ILLEGAL works carried out at an unauthorised Travellers’ site in Waltham St Lawrence have been identified by Royal Borough officers.

Members of the planning enforcement team visited the site, known as Five Oaks Farm, in Shurlock Road, following reports of alleged breaches of an injunction order obtained by the council on December 22, 2009.

During the visit, the occupants outlined their reasons for the works and the council is now legally required to give consideration to these. The alleged breaches include the creation of timber structures including animal shelters and storage buildings, hardcore importation and the addition of some road planings over and above what was already on the site, and 2m high entrance gates and fencing.

While the council seeks legal advice, letters will be sent to the site’s occupants and owners warning them if remedial works are not carried out within seven days committal proceedings may be considered.
