Gypsy and Traveller site in West Boldon is given go ahead despite objections - Tyneside

From the Sunderland Echo

PLANS for a permanent Gypsy and Traveller site have been given the go-ahead, despite protests from nearby farm owners.

A planning committee yesterday granted a retrospective application to the owner of West Pastures Caravan Site, off Newcastle Road, West Boldon, for 11 pitches.

Each pitch has space for two caravans and a detached brick building to provide kitchen and bathroom facilities, utility storage and general living space.

The owners of four farms nearby objected to the proposals, with residents also raising concerns.

Temporary planning permission for the site, granted following a public inquiry in March 2008, expired in March 2011. It has since been identified as a “suitable site for Gypsy-Traveller development” in South Tyneside Council’s development plan.
