Meadow Lane gypsy site trashed by Travellers - Bedfordshire

From Bedfordshire On Sunday

TRAVELLERS dumped rubbish all over a temporary stopping point just hours before causing destruction at a neighbouring football club.

It is understood that the mess at the non-permanent part of the Meadow Lane site was created by the same group who damaged the press box, CCTV cameras and maintenance compound at the neighbouring Bedford Town Football Club last week.

The group were forcibly removed from Meadow Lane in Bedford because they didn’t have a licence. On Thursday, November 27 police served a section 61 notice to remove the Travellers from the football ground and they were evicted othe following morning.

A spokesman for Bedford Borough Council said: “The Travellers evicted from Bedford Town FC have not returned to the Meadow Lane emergency stopping place. We are aware that there is a substantial amount of refuse left on the site.

“We will be clearing this following the three remaining families on the site leaving on the December 11.

“We do not have an estimate of the cost of this at this time.”
