Council set to take court action if Travellers don't leave today - Cheshire

From Wilmslow.co.uk

Cheshire East Council is set to go to court tomorrow to obtain a court summons so they can take repossession of land in Handforth.

Council officers served court papers on Friday, 6th December, to a group of Travellers who set up camp on Earls Road nearly three weeks ago. However, they have still not moved on, so unless they do so today the Council will take court action tomorrow.

The Travellers arrived on Tuesday 19th November, having moved two large tree stumps, which the Council had placed across the road, to gain access to the cul de sac.

Since then six caravans have been parked on the verge of Earls Road, adjacent to the Handforth Dean retail park.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: "Council officers served a court 'notice to quit' on the Travellers at Earls Road on Friday. As they still have not left, the next stage is to go to court tomorrow (Tuesday) to get an immediate repossession order. They will then have until midnight to leave."
