Travellers pitch up on Schoolyard East and West car parks in Bury St Edmunds - Sussex

From the Bury Free Press

A group of Travellers who have been pitching up on sites around Bury St Edmunds have now moved onto the Schoolyard East and West car parks.

It is the latest development in an ongoing saga after they were forced off the Parkway surface car park yesterday by St Edmundsbury Borough Council.

The authority served the encampment with a 78 notice giving them 24 hours to leave the site.

The Travellers have been moving around the town since June and have stayed on 11 different sites including Ram Meadow and Nowton Park car parks.

St Edmundsbury has obtained nine section 78 orders, which cost £200 each, to evict the encampments.

The council is in the midst of preparing a case seeking pre-emptive injunctions from the High Court to prevent further occupation of council owned sites.

A spokeswoman for the council said they will be taking action to evict the Travellers from Schoolyard East and West car parks.
