Milton Keynes man ejects gypsies from village football field - Buckinghamshire

From MK Web

A MILTON Keynes Village man managed to get Travellers off a football field when they tried to bring their vans onto it.

Mick Shwartz, who is the chairman of the City Colts football club, said that three vans from groups of Travellers had snapped the padlock on a post preventing vehicles from entering the field, which is the only access point.

They then lowered the post so they could get their vehicles onto the football field.

He confronted the group with his wife, saying that he managed to remain calm as he told them that he would take pictures of their registration details and pass them onto the police if they didn’t get off the football field used by the club.

That was despite the Travellers hurling abuse at him.

“We got a lot of abuse from them,” said Mr Schwartz.

“They were saying ‘We’re here to stay’, using swear words and that sort of thing.

“City Colts is the biggest football club in Milton Keynes and we have children playing football here so these fields are for them.”

But now Mr Schwartz is worried about Travellers returning to the site.

He has had to use his own padlock to prevent Travellers from simply lowering the post so that they can get back onto the field.

Mr Schwartz added: “There is a worry all the time now about Travellers returning and breaking the padlock because it’s only a temporary one.

Mr Schwartz now wants to see a stronger post installed so that the incidents cannoi happen again.

Just weeks before, 18 caravans were removed from the field by members of the public and police helped eject the Travellers.
