Rainworth: District makes plans for more Traveller sites - Nottinghamshire

From Chad

Newark and Sherwood District Council is drafting a preferred approach to find more Gypsy and Traveller sites in the district.

A shortage of Traveller pitches sparked the District Council to carry out a district-wide consultation which closed on 28th October.

The current Traveller sites at Ollerton/Boughton and Newark have reached capacity and now more sites are needed to meet the need for the Gypsy/Traveller community by 2026 as part of the district council’s Core Strategy.

The consultation asked the public’s view on where the additional sites should go.

Coun John Bradbury, representing Rainworth, said: “The consultation on more Traveller sites was district wide.

“A decision is still a long way off and we won’t know what the results of the consultation are until February/March time.” After a Gypsy & Traveller Development Plan Document has been prepared by the district council, it will be reported to the Economic Development Committee to be approved.
