Royal Borough responds to High Court over illegal Traveller site - Berkshire

From the Maidenhead Advertiser

The Royal Borough has responded to the High Court after it was blocked from taking direct action to remove Travellers from a site in Shurlock Road.

The borough had planned to clear the illegal site last month but was blocked by the High Court following an application for a judicial review of the council's decision.

After being given 21 days to respond the borough sent its response on Thursday.

Cllr MJ Saunders, cabinet member for planning and property, said: "We are not expecting a response soon, as the average time for a decision can be about 11 weeks.

"If the court decides there are grounds for a judicial review, or issues a further order, then of course it could take a lot longer until the legal process is complete."

On Wednesday the council was also served with a second application for a judicial review to look into reasons why planning permission on the site for one of the occupants was refused.

The 40-plus Travellers living at the of the site have repeatedly ignored enforcement orders to leave.
