Villagers voice anger over travellers camp - Aberdeenshire

From the Press and Journal

ANGRY villagers clashed with council chiefs last night over plans for an authorised Travellers camp in the heart of rural Buchan.

Residents called on Aberdeenshire Council to abandon its proposal for a permanent halting site at historic Aikey Brae, near Old Deer, during a heated public meeting.

Local authority bosses said the move would slash the number of illegal camps which crop up around the region each year and claimed the plan could help improve prospects for travellers, whose life expectancy is between 10-20 years below average.
