KING’S LYNN: Car park disrupted as Travellers set up camp - Norfolk

From the Lynn News

A group of Travellers set up camp on part of a major Lynn car park over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Around 10 caravans and other vehicles spent four days on a section of the Boal Quay car park, one of the main long-stay car parks for shoppers and commuters.

A West Norfolk Council spokesman said that the group had moved onto the site on Saturday and eventually moved on on Tuesday. Police said they had not been called to deal with the issue.

The camp is the second to have set up in Lynn in just a few weeks, after another group of Travellers spent several days last month on an area of wasteland off Nar Ouse Way.

However, officials say such developments are not unusual at this time of the year as the weather improves.

The Travellers’ departure on Tuesday morning also coincided with engineers carrying out repairs to the bollards at the start of the Hardings Way bus lane, which is near the entrance to the car park.

However, Norfolk County Council, who are responsible for roads issues in the borough, said the repairs were not connected to the camp.

A spokesman said: “We had contractors on site to fix a number of faults with the system which had developed in recent days.”
