Gypsies move from Three Corner Piece site - Suusex

From the Mid Sussex Times

AFTER a high court battle residents have finally won, after Travellers moved from Three Corner Piece.

Self-proclaimed Gypsies Jimmy and Christopher Searle lived on the Harting site for over three years.

The pair grew up in Hampshire, but claimed Gypsy status under EU law.

They bought the land in the national park for £120,000 and moved two caravans on to it in 2009.

Chichester District Council won a high court battle to evict the pair by August 2013, but they have left several months before the deadline.

Resident Neil Simpson, said: “They were really no problem as neighbours, but I am relieved about the commitment of the local authority in getting them removed.

“You just can’t have planning laws flouted in this way, especially in a national park.”
