Police took five days to boot out Travellers who set up camp in Langdon Park over the bank holiday weekend.
Travellers arrived at the park in Hampton Wick in three vans and a car at about 9.30am on Friday, May 3, but were not moved on until Tuesday, May 7.
Police received more than a dozen calls from people living near the park, who raised concerns about the Travellers but said they had not committed any criminal offences.
Richmond Council was aware on Saturday, May 4, that the Travellers were in the park but waited until Tuesday to send a representative to evict them.
Sergeant Anthony Lovegrove from Teddington’s safer neighbourhood team (SNT) went to the park after reports of antisocial behaviour between some young people and the families there and persuaded the Travellers to leave.
A Richmond Council spokesman said: “Richmond Council was notified on Saturday morning that there were Travellers in Langdon Park.
“On Tuesday the council started legal proceedings for an eviction order. However, in the meantime the local police negotiated an amicable move.
“They did leave a lot of rubbish and debris, which council officers have now removed.
“We are now reviewing the security of the site and officers have offered to meet with local residents to discuss any concerns that they might have.”
