From the Shropshire Star
A controversial bid to set up a Travellers camp in Shropshire is likely to go before councillors for a decision next month, council chiefs have said. It has been delayed as talks have been ongoing.
Shropshire Council had hoped to have decided the planning application by Gypsy family Jerry and Michelle Berry last month.
But council bosses said talks were still being held d and it was hoped the application, for a mobile home and a touring caravan pitch opposite Henlle Park Golf Club in Gobowen, would be decided next month.
Gareth Proffitt, spokesman for Shropshire Council, said: “We are looking to have the application before the area’s planning committee in February.”
Councillor Trevor Davies, who represents Gobowen on Shropshire Council, said he wanted to see the bid determined quickly.
A previous application by Mr and Mrs Berry for a larger Travellers’ site on Henlle Lane has already been turned down and an appeal was thrown out by a Government inspector.
The fresh bid has attracted objections including from the golf club and the nearby Lion Quays Waterside Resort and Moreton Hall School.
A letter submitted by planning representative Clive Roberts, on behalf of the golf club, the Lion Quays and the school, said Shropshire Council has secured funding to extend the Gypsy site at nearby Park Hall so there was no need for the site.
