Gypsy consultation underway in city - Glamorgan

From Swansea.gov.uk

RESIDENTS in Swansea can find out more about the latest plans to develop a second Gypsy and Traveller site later this month.

A week-long event has been organised by Swansea Council from 21 – 25 January. The information event will enable residents to speak to an officer about the work already carried out in the search for another site.

A three-month consultation is underway in the city, and the Council wants everyone to get involved and give their views on the process used to develop a shortlist of sites for consideration.

The Council is required under current legislation to provide adequate accommodation for Gypsies and Travellers where there is an unmet demand.

A special website has been developed, giving residents access to all the documents relating to the issue.

Hard copies of all the documents are also available at the Civic Centre and at libraries throughout the city.

The latest plans will give residents the opportunity to look at the documents and the process used by the Council and to ask questions relating to it.

Cllr David Phillips, Leader of the Council, said: "The Council wants the public to play a full part in this process.

"No decisions have been made about any site and none will be until after the public consultation has been completed.

"The information we have published will give everyone a better understanding of the current situation and give residents an opportunity to tell us their views."

Anyone that is interested in talking to one of the Council's officers about the plans can book an appointment during the week. Spaces are limited, so call 01792 635606 to book an appointment.
