Travellers leave Batley, and move to Heckmondwike - Yorkshire

From batleynews.co.uk

TRAVELLERS left Carter’s Fields the evening before their scheduled eviction.

The camp, which was due to be moved on by Kirklees Council at 11am last Friday, left the fields, off North Bank Road, Batley, at around 8pm last Thursday.

Carlinghow and Cross Bank Neighbourhood Watch vice chairwoman Pat Crisp said the travellers had moved onto another site in Dale Lane, Heckmondwike. The camp of around seven caravans had arrived in Batley on Sunday June 17, sparking complaints from residents about rubbish on the fields, dogs and horses running around and tyre marks left from off-road vehicles.

A Kirklees Council spokeswoman said building debris and rubbish were cleared from the site last Friday and a street scrubbing machine cleaned the road. The council is now looking at repairing the football pitches.
