From the Scarborough News
Travellers have arrived at the official site for this year’s Horse Fair in Seamer which will take place on Sunday.
This year’s Horse Fair site is the same field as last year, located just off the B1261 between Seamer and Crossgates.
Facilities are being provided, including the provision of an onsite water supply via standpipes and a horse trough in the adjacent Dell, as well as portable toilets and a daily refuse collection service.
Travellers will be charged a fee for staying on the site, which will be proportionate to the number of nights they stay.
The council is once again employing site managers who will be on site 24 hours a day for the entire time the site is open.
A new introduction for this year is Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) which will assist in the monitoring of the site on a round the clock basis.
A statement from Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire Police said: “The site opened on time on Monday morning.
“The field and local road network were very busy as the site opened which created some disruption for drivers and residents but the congestion was cleared quickly.
“The field has remained usable despite very heavy rain. The numbers on site are slightly lower than last year.
“The council and police will continue to work together to ensure the site is managed so as to minimise, as far as possible, disturbance to local people.”
