Thelma's Gypsy Lies

From http://pipopotamus.blogspot.co.uk

Back in February, I made a promise to myself that I would never watch Channel 4 again. I was to stage a one man boycott against the channel that had chosen ratings over human beings, the channel that appeared to have the sole aim of promoting derogatory ethnic stereotypes of the Romany and Irish Traveller communities. Big Fat Gypsy Weddings – it had become the bane of my existence. So sick I was of people asking me if “oi’d grab that”, that I wrote an open letter to Channel 4 to highlight the inaccuracies of their ‘documentary’.

  1. Very good analysis-I watched this program and was shocked at the abuse of the girls' rights-the interview broke every rule in the book-also the bias was incredible-they should sue-I interview people as part of my work as a manager and you cannot ask them the kind of questions that were asked of these girls. The Daily Mail article promoting the program reported that these 'women' never worked a day in their lives-this in spite of the fact that they are children-14-16-what percentage of settled children in this age bracket hold down jobs as machinists and seamstresses? Then there was no interview schedule, unprofessional chaos designe dot make these young teens fail, and they were left waiting for hours, bored, and in the case of the young teens, without professional supervision. Madine's comments on the young hoepfuls would not stand up to any mutual respect policy in a professional work place. Trade unionists should contact the wrokers in her factories and advise them of their rights asap. If she is benefiting from any trainning scheme state funds she should be disbarred immediately as not fit to supervise young people.
Also racists often hurl abuse at travellers as criminals and benefit abusers, and yet here we have Thelma Madine held up as some kind of role model, in spite of her systesmatic benefit fraud-which Now praises her for coming throuhg-how many Now readers give others the benefit of the doubt?-would be good to know how much she was paid for the program and any other cash she is making.
Also the original documentary showed traveller women at work-they could work without being identified -I have noticed that people in the media are typically combining a return to anti-Irish sentiment with racism against travellers and that this goes unchallenged-note Celebrity Juice.
Breda Gray's research demonstrated that the Irish travllers in Britian love Britain's multi-culturalism and the general decency of British people-a welcome escape form the appalling abuse they suffer in Ireland-it's such a pity that this series, My Big fat Gypsy Wedding and its spin-offs has done so much damage in peddlin gits racism and will be responsible for widespread suffering and hardhsip of this segment of the population, while making a 11.2 million profit for Firecracker last year alone.
